Christmas in VA 08

We enjoyed mild temps in VA this Christmas - it was kinda nice! The kids had a great time with the grandparents, uncles and cousins. We didn't do much, which was even nicer, we caught a movie with Nina and ate lots of good food! Oh and did the annual Christmas photo shoot, here were some shots....

diaper cake

Have a baby shower to go to this weekend and found this easy diaper cake here: http://www.handmadebyjill.blogspot.com/ ! Had so much fun with this project, Sophie even helped me roll all the diapers. This is a gender neutral shower - so I stuck with yellows, greens and browns! Jill gives a step-by-step tutorial on her site.

Halloween 08

My horse and my skull biker oh and my bumble bee! Sophie insisted that she was a horse and NOT a cowgirl! The weather was perfect for Halloween this year - Bella and I sat on the porch handing out candy. Sophie's preschool had a parade of costumes and they sang three songs - these are her friends Mallory and Anna.

in honor of Rudie's 101st.....

Today my great-grandma Rudie would be 101! In honor of her birthday I'm posting pix of my latest knitted purse! Rudie loved "pocketbooks" and was constantly switching them out according to her clothes and seasons! They were always filled with plenty of pens, notepads and Dentine gum! Also in honor - a pic. of Sophie Ruth eating her morning cereal!
I love this ruffled pattern!!!
Mom is making lots too! She lines them and puts the handles on them and we even have our own labels S&S Knits!

the tale of the lizard's tail

Last night as we are getting ready for bed - Sophie runs to me saying she has a "wizard's tail" in her nose, luckily she was holding a plastic LIZARD in her hand or I wouldn't have believed her. So, upon closer inspection of the said lizard - I saw that the once pointy tail was now a blunt end. I promptly took her into the bathroom, found my ear and nose thingy (a light and magnifier that the dr. uses to check noses and ears - has completely paid for itself time and again!) Sure enough there was a lizard's tail longed in her left nostril.

Sophie remained calm - thankfully. I tried having her blow it out to no avail, even dunking her in a sink full of water. After several phone calls to friends and finally Dr. David, Rob's brother in Colorado - off to the e.r. she went. As you can see, we were shocked by the size of the tail piece, and now I wonder when I will get the true story of how the wizard's tail ended up in Sophie's nose!

tomatoes and more tomatoes

Every year I plant tomatoes - this year Sophie helped me! She gets so excited every time she sees one ready for picking (There's one and another one and another one, Mom). She doesn't like to pick them because her hands smell like the vines after! We planted 4 plants this year and we have TONS - Rudie would be proud!

cedar point

After almost 7 years in Ohio - we finally made it to this huge amusement park! The kids had a blast and we are so lucky to have great neighbors who asked us to go with them! We had no lines, thanks to rain on our drive out, so we're guessing people left. Jake was quite the crazy kid - going on rides even I wouldn't go on! Sophie loved it all too - not afraid of anything - Rob on the other hand was not a fan of the ferris wheel!

Cape Cod 2008

We just returned from vacation! The weather was perfect 85 degrees and no humidity! The ocean water was warm and the kids enjoyed the beach more than ever! Sophie is even a surfer girl this year. We spent the week in Chatham! There is a great flea market at the Welfleet drive-in where I picked up some adorable things (mostly antique buttons and a cute tote made from printed tarps). We ate yummy fried seafood and crab cakes all week and lots of homemade ice-cream. On Thursday we ferried over to Nantucket for a day of more shopping and the kids visited the Whale Museum (Sophie is still saying "There she BLOWS!). Nantucket was sooo charming with its cobblestone and brick streets and boutiques. Dad kept saying "I am the man from Nantucket" all day. The kids enjoyed the hour long ferry and even sat up on the deck~

My baby cousin, Lauryn celebrated her 1st birthday - we had a party and she LOVED it! So happy we could spend time together with family.

Mom and I enjoyed knitting together and even scoped out a couple of local yarn shops. All in All a beautiful vacation and the countdown is on for next year, ha! More pix later...

first knitted hat & 4th pix

We had a great 4th with our friends - the weather was perfect, no humidity, we even had to wear jackets for fireworks! These are the kids at the park which was right beside the baseball field (also perfect)! Kenzi loves being outside and especially swinging!

My first knitted hat (before felting). I had to felt it since I was following a pattern to fit a 24 month old and as you can see it fit 4 year Sophie, ha!
